I have been a HUGE fan of artist Roger Dean, the man behind many of the YES album covers. He has been a creative hero and inspiration for most of my life when I first discovered the music of YES and then bought a copy of VIEWS from 1974.
This water color painting was inspired by the death of my father on Wednesday April 8 12:24pm. I decided to turn my emotions and grief into creativity and funnel all of my energy, focus and inspiration into this painting, inspired by Roger Dean. This was the first painting I had done in about 8 years and was completed pretty quickly in under two weeks working off and on. I intentionally didn’t want to overwork it even though I easily could have. I wanted there to be some space and levity but clearly a trifecta of imagery unfolding in a visual story.
“From exciting startups to global brands, companies are reaching out to digital agencies, responding to the new possibilities available. However, the industry is fast becoming overcrowded, heaving with agencies”
The final piece didn’t change very much from the original sketch. The little silhouette of a man was a suggestion from a band member, which I couldn’t resist adding. The band was completely blown away by the whole thing. I also redesigned their logo to be better and visually cooler. They loved it as well.
